Is St Andrew's Church open during the week?

Sadly, as a city church, we are unable to have the doors open all the time.

Matawhero church is open  

When are the worship services held?
Matawhero 1st and 3rd Sunday of month at 9 am.
Communion on the 1st Sunday

St Andrews 10.30 am every Sunday
Communion is usually on the 2nd Sunday

What is offered for children?
-Children are welcome at all services – activities are provided for them to do

What are the regular social activities offered by St Andrews?

What activities are offered for spiritual growth beyond the worship services?
Some regular study groups such as Wellspring, Growing in Faith
Some occasional short term study groups, especially in Lent and Advent, leading to Easter and Christmas

How can I join the St Andrew’s choir?
The choir sings almost every Sunday during the St Andrew’s service. Choir practice is held every Friday at 1pm. Anyone who would like to is welcome to come along and join in making beautiful music to the glory of God.

Can people have funerals in the Presbyterian Church if they are not Presbyterians?
Yes. The funeral director will liaise with Gisborne Presbyterian Parish to organise this along with the family.

If we want to hire the hall for refreshments after a funeral, are we able to drink alcohol?
No, under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act, the sale or supply of any alcohol requires a special license and is contrary to GPP’s policy for alcohol to be supplied on the premises Click for more...

Are we able to get married in either Matawhero or St Andrew’s church if we are not church goers?
Yes. All wedding requests will be discussed at the Parish Council monthly meeting and the applicants informed of the decision as soon as possible (Click for a wedding information brochure

Can we use a Marriage Celebrant instead of a Minister?
This is at the discretion of the Parish Council. Please Contact the Administrator

What is the capacity of Matawhero Church for a wedding?
Matawhero church seats a maximum of approximately 70 people

What is St Andrew’s Church capacity?
Approx 250 - 300 people

Is there any car parking at St Andrew’s?
Yes, we have a large private carpark behind the church off Childers Road

Is the church/community hall disabled friendly?
Yes, we have disabled facilities and ramps up to the church and the hall

Can we hire the lounge/hall in the evenings?
Yes, this can be arranged with the Administrator. Click for more...

Is the kitchen available for hire?
Yes, in conjunction with either hall/lounge at an additional cost

Are we able to use the crockery etc?
Yes, the kitchen is fully equipped.

When do you hold the car boot sales?
Every 2nd & 4th Saturday of the month all year round. Seller set up at 8 am, starts at 9 – 12 midday.

I have heard St Andrew’s has wonderful acoustics – are we able to hire the church for a concert?
Yes, with church council approval. St Andrew’s hosts many concerts throughout the year. Please Contact the Administrator

Are there any offices available to rent on a long term basis?  No offices are available at the moment

How can I donate to support the community ministry of Gisborne Presbyterian Parish and St Andrew’s and Matawhero churches?
Direct Deposit to Westpac Bank. A/c # 03-0638-0462917- 00. Please include your name as a reference.

Donations can be left at the church office, 176 Cobden Street, Monday to Friday between 9am – 1pm.
